President and CEO | Edmonton International Airport
Tom Ruth joined Edmonton Airports as President and Chief Executive Officer on January 27, 2014. Tom is responsible for the management and operation of Edmonton International Airport (EIA), Canada’s fifth busiest airport, as well as the nearby Villeneuve Airport which serves the Region’s general and recreational aviation sectors.
Under Tom’s leadership, EIA has seen significant growth in terms of both passenger and air cargo service. EIA now offers direct flights (charter and scheduled) to over 50 destinations within Canada, the US, Europe, including Reykjavik (Icelandair), Amsterdam (KLM) and London-Gatwick (WestJet) and Asia, linking Edmonton’s trade markets to locations throughout Canada, the US, Europe, China, Japan, India and Korea.
In addition to growing EIA’s air service market, Tom has also advanced the Aerotropolis development at EIA, with more than 500 million dollars in private investment over the past three years. These current and planned developments provide a strong mix of retail, entertainment, hospitality and business offerings and will create EIA as a destination, attracting tourism and trade to the Region.
Tom is past Chair of the Canadian Airports Council (CAC). He represents Canada on the Airports Council International (ACI) World Governing Board, and is also a member of the Airports Council International – North America (ACI-NA) Board of Directors.
